Unveiling Our Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo 2022: A Tale of Hope and Resilience
We are thrilled to introduce our Monferrato DOC Nebbiolo 2022, the inaugural vintage from our vineyard, planted five years ago. Named “Speriamo,” which translates to “let’s hope” in Italian, this wine embodies the optimism we held onto during the Covid pandemic and the subsequent challenges we faced as a fledgling venture in the tourism industry. The name also humorously nods to our project manager’s frequent use of “Speriamo,” as we often heard, “Speriamo the builder will appear tomorrow.”
Over the past five years, we have invested immense effort into cultivating our vineyard. The journey has been a steep learning curve, involving everything from mastering agricultural practices and handling machinery to effective pest control and refining our winemaking techniques. Not to mention, we’ve had our fair share of navigating the intricacies of Italian bureaucracy.
Speriamo is a young and vibrant Nebbiolo with 14% alcohol, aged for 14 months in tonneau. On the nose, it offers bright red fruits like cherry and raspberry, complemented by floral notes of rose and a hint of spice. On the palate, it delivers lively acidity, moderate tannins, and flavors that reflect the nose, with an added touch of earthiness.
The 2022 grape season in Piedmont was particularly challenging, marked by extreme heat and prolonged drought, making it one of the driest years since 1800. Despite these conditions, timely rains in August allowed the vines to resume vegetative growth and ripen properly. We harvested the grapes in September, resulting in a wine that beautifully captures the essence of that remarkable season.
We hope that Speriamo brings you the same sense of hope and joy it has brought us. Cheers to new beginnings and the exciting future ahead!
